"Proficient readers spontaneously and purposely create mental images while and after they read. The images emerge from all five senses as well as emotions and are anchored in a reader's prior knowledge." Ellin Keene and Susan Zimmerman Mosaic of Thought, p. 141
Nadine Gilkison of Smekens Education created five questions readers should ask themselves as they have conversations about visualization in text. The questions are: 1. What words in the text helped you visualize this information? 2. How did your background knowledge help? 3. Which of the six senses are you applying? 4. Is there something/someone that you still can't visualize? 5. How did your visualization change throughout the reading?
